About Us

I began BREAKING BARD because not only is Shakespeare one of my favorite writers, he is widely considered to be the greatest writer in the English language, and often we are told that while his works are brilliant, they’re inaccessible to a general audience.  Even professional actors sometimes struggle to understand his words and intentions, nervous directors might simplify text when they don’t have to, and many laypeople throw up their hands and assume they’ll never understand Big Willie’s words after a lackluster high school English class or one incomprehensible production of Hamlet.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!!  Yes, Shakespeare’s writing takes some getting used to, but with a little bit of effort, you too can understand this innovative, ground-breaking, boundary-dissolving playwright from four centuries ago.

I learn something new every time I look at his words, and my mission is to create the opportunity for anyone and everyone to take ownership of this cultural icon and symbol of intelligence and creativity.  Shakespeare is yours.

Oh, and the stories are pretty good, too!!

People are saying…

“Meaghan Helped me feel confident in my Shakespeare monologues. She helps her students find the humanity in his words and that everyone can relate to Shakespeare plays no matter who you are or where you come from. Through her lessons I found it easier to understand the Bard and I now fully enjoy reading and seeing Shakespeare as well as performing it.”

Melissa Cox, actor

“If Meaghan can teach a novice like me to understand Shakespeare, she can teach anyone! Meaghan makes miracles happen – I now understand Shakespeare! I had forever sworn off Shakespeare because I felt unable to understand. After a class with Meaghan I’m actively seeking out live Shakespeare wherever and whenever I can attend a performance!”
